Security Guard Services Across the San Fernando Valley

The San Fernando Valley is not a county. It is a region of Los Angeles County, ringed by the Santa Monica Mountains to the south, the Verdugo and San Gabriel Mountains to the east, the Santa Susana Mountains to the north and the Simi Hills to the west. We give it its own page because its property mix is different enough from the rest of the county to plan for separately.

Most of the Valley communities on our list, including Van Nuys, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Reseda, Canoga Park, Chatsworth and Woodland Hills, are neighborhoods inside the City of Los Angeles. Burbank and Calabasas are separate incorporated cities. That matters for security guard services in the San Fernando Valley more than people expect: it decides which police department takes a call, which fire department writes a fire watch order, and who issues the permit for a film shoot on your street.

The Valley is also where much of Los Angeles film and television work happens. Studio lots in Burbank and Studio City, and the production offices, prop houses, equipment rental yards and stages around them, all need gate posts, overnight equipment watches and short-run coverage on location.

How the Valley Breaks Down

Burbank and the studio side

Studio lots, post-production houses, Hollywood Burbank Airport and the office buildings around them. Posts here run on credentials and gate lists, and on keeping fans and photographers out of places they do not belong.

The Ventura Boulevard corridor

Restaurants, medical and professional offices, banks and boutique shops stacked along one long street from Studio City through Sherman Oaks and Encino to Woodland Hills, with residential hills right behind. Rear doors and alley lots are the weak side of most of these buildings.

Central Valley: Van Nuys and Reseda

Van Nuys Airport, the courthouse and government buildings of the Van Nuys civic center, auto shops and light industry, and a lot of apartment buildings. Carports, vacant units and small industrial units get most of the attention here.

West Valley: Warner Center, Canoga Park, Chatsworth

Warner Center office towers and new apartment blocks in Woodland Hills, then business parks and industrial yards in Canoga Park and Chatsworth. Big parking structures and quiet weekends make patrol checks and lock-up useful.

Hillsides

Homes against the Santa Monica Mountains and the Santa Susana foothills are in wildfire zones. On red-flag days and after evacuations, empty streets need patrol and damaged homes need someone watching them.

Production Security

Film Shoots, Studios and Location Work

On-location filming in the City of Los Angeles, which covers most of the Valley, is permitted through FilmLA. The permit sets the dates, hours and locations, and the security post for a shoot should be built around it: base camp and equipment trucks overnight, the set perimeter during work hours, and picture cars and rental gear between shoot days.

Holding traffic on a public street for a shot is handled by sworn officers under the permit conditions, not by private security. Our officers stay on the production's side of the line: watching equipment, keeping onlookers out of the working area, checking crew credentials at base camp and logging who comes and goes. Studio lot posts work the same way, with the studio's own gate lists and badge rules written into the post orders.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the San Fernando Valley a separate county?
No. The San Fernando Valley is a region inside Los Angeles County. Most of it is part of the City of Los Angeles, and the rest includes separate cities such as Burbank and Calabasas. We list it on its own because its property mix is different from the rest of the county.
How much do security guards cost in the San Fernando Valley?
California market rates for unarmed guards run roughly $22 to $40 an hour. Short production posts, overnight patrol checks and full-time lobby posts price differently, so we quote after a free site walk, post by post.
Do you provide security for homes in the Valley hills?
Yes. Unarmed officers can stand a post at a private home or run patrol checks. During red-flag warnings, or once an evacuation order lifts, an officer on site can report damage, trespassers and anything that looks like smoke.
Which police department responds to an incident at my Valley property?
It depends on the address. Neighborhoods inside the City of Los Angeles are covered by the Los Angeles Police Department, Burbank has its own police department, and Calabasas contracts with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Our officers call the right agency and note it in the shift report.
