Short-Term Coverage

When a Temporary Guard Makes Sense

Temporary security guards cover a gap that has an end date. The risk is real but short: a door that will not lock until the locksmith comes on Monday, a building standing empty between tenants, a hard week at work.

A permanent post would be the wrong tool, and doing nothing would be worse. A short booking puts a licensed, unarmed officer on the spot for exactly those days, then stops.

If the need keeps going past a few weeks, we will say so and price the alternatives: a standing post, or patrol visits if the property only needs checking.

Short-Term Jobs We Get Called For

After a break-in

Storefront glass boarded up, or a forced door waiting on the glazier or locksmith. The officer holds the opening overnight until it locks again.

Between tenants or owners

An empty building draws squatters, copper theft and dumping. A guard covers the gap until the new tenant moves in or a patrol plan takes over.

Terminations and layoffs

An officer in the lobby on the day a layoff is announced or a difficult termination happens. HR runs the meeting. The officer watches the door and calls police if someone turns violent or refuses to leave.

Moves and renovations

Doors propped open all day while crews carry furniture or gut a floor. The officer watches the open door and the staging area, not the work.

Seasonal weeks

Holiday weeks at a store, move-in week at an apartment building, a year-end inventory count.

Covering your own officer

Your in-house officer is on leave, or a post opened before you could hire. Our officer works your existing post orders.

What a One-Night Booking Still Gets

Short does not mean skipping steps. A single overnight shift gets the same basics as a year-long contract:

Before You Call

What to Tell Us When You Call

Address and access

Gate codes, keys, alarm codes, and who meets the officer on the first night.

Dates and hours

The start, the end, and whether the end could move.

What needs protecting

One open door, a floor of inventory, a whole empty building, or people.

Conditions on site

Power, lighting, a restroom the officer can use, and somewhere out of the weather. A 12-hour overnight post in a dark building with none of these is hard to staff.

A decision-maker at 2 a.m.

The person the officer calls when something is wrong and a decision is needed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book a security guard for just one night?
Yes. A single shift is a normal booking. Ask about the minimum shift length when you call.
How much do temporary security guards cost?
Unarmed guards in California generally run $22 to $40 per officer per hour. Short notice, overnight hours and holidays usually cost more than a weekday booked ahead. Compare minimum shift lengths too: a low rate with a long minimum can cost more than a higher rate with a short one.
Should I hire a guard or a patrol for an empty building?
A guard, if there is an opening that will not lock, active trespassing, or anything that needs watching all night. A mobile patrol, if the building is secure and only needs checking a few times a night. Patrol visits cost less than an officer on site for the whole night.
Can a temporary booking turn into a regular post?
Yes. The post orders already exist, so moving to a standing schedule means a new quote for the regular hours, not starting over.
Can you send a guard tonight?
Call and ask. The answer depends on the hour, the location and who is free, and you will get a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.
