Security Guard Services in Upland, CA

CAL Security Group posts unarmed, BSIS-licensed officers across Upland: shopping centres and big-box retail, the downtown corridor, medical offices, industrial and contractor yards, apartment communities and construction sites.

Upland runs its own police department rather than contracting the county, and it administers its own alarm programme. What it does not have is a security problem you can solve with one type of post. Retail theft turns up at the shopping centres on the north side, vehicle break-ins in apartment parking, and equipment theft in the yards near the industrial edge.

Colonies Crossroads has featured in several documented retail theft cases over the past two years, the kind where a group works a store and leaves in a waiting car. Presence at the door and a usable written description are what change those outcomes.

CAL Security Group holds a Private Patrol Operator (PPO) licence from the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) and staffs unarmed officers only.

Hospital and medical office traffic runs late, with staff crossing lots at shift change and visitors arriving at odd hours. Lobby control, escorts and parking rounds are the standard mix.

Upland Alarm Permits and False Alarm Fees

Chapter 8.32 of the municipal code requires an alarm system permit for every premises, separately, and the permits are not transferable. The fees are set by City Council resolution and published in the city's fee schedule.

Upland alarm charge, as listed in the city fee scheduleAmount
Alarm permit, residential or commercial$78, with a $10 renewal
First false alarm in a 365-day periodNo charge
Second false alarm$75
Third false alarm$220
Fourth false alarm$250
Fifth and every one after$260 each

Repeat activations can cost you the permit as well as the fees. The ordinance does exclude some causes from the false alarm count: extreme weather, electrical outages and telephone line problems, though a line fault has to be confirmed by the telephone company in writing to the police department.

That third activation at $220 is the moment most owners start looking at private alarm response. An officer with your keys and codes reaches the property, checks the doors and windows, cancels the faulty ones, and calls Upland Police when the entry is real.

FAQ

Upland Security Questions

How much does a security guard cost in Upland?
Unarmed guards in California bill at about $22 to $40 an hour on the open market, published market data rather than CAL Security Group's rate. Upland has no city minimum wage, so the floor is California's $16.90 an hour. Retail posts are priced by trading hours and patrol routes per visit, and both appear on the quote separately.
Does Upland require an alarm permit?
Yes, under Chapter 8.32 of the municipal code, and a separate permit is needed for each premises. Permits are not transferable. The city's fee schedule lists $78 for the permit with a $10 renewal, and false alarm fees of $75 at the second in a 365-day period, $220 at the third, $250 at the fourth and $260 after that.
Which false alarms do not count against us?
The ordinance excludes activations caused by extreme weather, electrical outages and telephone line problems. A line fault has to be verified by the telephone company, in some form presented to the police department, so keep that documentation if your system drops out.
Do you provide armed guards in Upland?
No. CAL Security Group staffs unarmed officers only. An armed post in California calls for officers holding a BSIS firearms permit alongside the guard card, so that job goes to a firm licensed for it. Retail floors, lobbies, yards, medical buildings and construction sites are ordinary unarmed work.
What does a retail officer do about a theft crew?
Stand where they have to walk past, and write down what matters. A uniformed officer at the entrance changes the calculation for a crew working a store, and where something does happen the report carries times, descriptions, what left the store, direction of travel and the vehicle with plates. Post orders set the limits on physical involvement before the first shift.
Can one officer cover several Upland properties?
Yes, as a patrol route with timed stops at each property through the night. Every owner gets a log of visits to their own address, and it costs a fraction of a standing officer per site. Owners with two or three buildings here usually start this way.
Are your Upland officers licensed and insured?
Yes. All officers are BSIS guard card holders: DOJ and FBI fingerprints, 40 hours of initial training and an 8-hour refresher every year. Every patrol operator carries at least $1,000,000 in general liability per occurrence, the figure fixed by Business and Professions Code Section 7583.40.
Do you serve the surrounding area?
Yes. Officers work across San Bernardino County, including Rancho Cucamonga, Ontario, Chino and Fontana, plus Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties.
