Security Guard Services in Glendale, CA

CAL Security Group posts unarmed, BSIS-licensed officers across Glendale: mall and Brand Boulevard retail, car dealership lots, office and studio lobbies, apartment garages, medical buildings and construction sites.

Glendale packs two regional malls, a dealership row, a studio campus, two hospitals and a college into a city where most of the money sits within a few blocks of Brand Boulevard. That concentration is what shapes the security work. Retail crews target the Americana at Brand and the Galleria, dealership lots hold millions in inventory behind a chain-link line, and the hillside streets above them lose catalytic converters overnight.

Glendale Police Department has said its catalytic converter thefts happen mostly during overnight hours in residential neighborhoods, from cars parked on the street or in unsecured lots. That is a patrol problem, not a guard-at-the-door problem, and the two get priced differently.

CAL Security Group is a BSIS-licensed Private Patrol Operator (PPO). Every officer on a post is unarmed, and we say so before quoting. Every Glendale post gets written orders for the address before the first shift.

Americana at Brand and Glendale Galleria

Two malls facing each other, which makes this the busiest retail block in the city. Organized crews work it: in August 2023 a group of 30 to 40 people cleared roughly $300,000 of merchandise out of the Yves Saint Laurent store at the Americana before scattering into about 20 vehicles. Store-level posts here are about doorway presence, back-of-house control and a usable written record.

Brand Boulevard of Cars

The dealership row on South Brand holds rows of unlocked-looking inventory under lights all night. The post is a walking or vehicle patrol across the lot line: key boxes, service bays, plates and converters checked, and anyone in the rows after hours contacted and logged.

Downtown Offices and Studio Campuses

Office towers along Brand and Central, and the animation and post-production campuses off Flower Street, run on badge access and visitor control. Lobby desks by day, a locked perimeter and contractor escorts at night.

Hospitals and the College

Adventist Health Glendale and Glendale Memorial run around the clock, with staff walking to cars at shift change and visitors arriving at odd hours. Glendale Community College adds a 100-acre campus with parking structures that empty late.

Montrose and the Foothills

Honolulu Avenue's shops and restaurants close early and sit dark, and the residential streets above them are where cars get worked on overnight. Lock-up rounds for the businesses, patrol passes for the blocks around them.

Apartment Buildings and Hillside Streets

Adams Hill, the Verdugo slopes and the dense blocks near the freeways lose packages, bicycles and converters. Officers work garage levels, watch gates close behind cars, and log what got in and how.

Glendale's Alarm Ordinance and What False Alarms Cost

Glendale requires a permit for any alarm system that calls police or fire, the permit expires every June 30, and false alarm fines start at the second one in a permit year. Running an unregistered system is the expensive version: the first false alarm on an unpermitted address costs $361, which is what a registered address pays on its fourth.

False alarm in the permit yearRegistered addressUnregistered or expired permit
FirstNo fine$361
Second$130, waived if you take the online course$478
Third$267$599
Fourth and each one after$361 each$599 each

Fees published on the Glendale alarm program fee schedule, with a $50 non-refundable fee to appeal one. Glendale Municipal Code Chapter 8.12 adds the rules behind them: audible alarms have to reset themselves, with sound capped at 15 minutes on a residential system and 30 minutes on a commercial or industrial one, and repeat offenders reach "special assignment" status where the city recovers personnel and equipment costs on top of the fine.

An officer with your keys and codes gets to the property, sorts a real entry from a faulty contact, and calls Glendale PD only when there is something for them to do. Three avoided false alarms cover a lot of patrol stops.

What Security Guards Cost in Glendale

Unarmed guards in California bill at roughly $22 to $40 an hour on the open market, which is published market data rather than CAL Security Group's rate. Glendale has no general citywide minimum wage of its own, so the floor under most posts is California's $16.90 an hour in 2026.

Hotels are the exception, and it is a large one. Glendale's Hotel Workers Protection Ordinance ties hotel worker pay to the Los Angeles hotel rate, $25.00 an hour from July 1, 2026, and requires panic buttons for hospitality workers along with limits on workload and forced overtime. A security post inside a Glendale hotel sits in that world, so it quotes differently from a post at a dealership two miles away, and your post orders should say who answers a panic button and how.

After wages, the numbers come from hours and posts. Round-the-clock cover is 168 hours a week; a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. post is 84; a patrol route shared between several buildings bills per visit instead of per hour. Our security guard cost guide lists the ranges by property type.

Why Choose Us

Why Glendale Owners Hire CAL Security Group

Founded by Chaudhry Younus, a U.S. Air Force veteran with 24 years in the security industry. What you buy is a documented post, not a body in a uniform.

Post orders written for the address. A dealership lot and a mall storefront get different instructions on entry, theft and when Glendale PD is called.

A written report after every shift. Officer name and guard card number, times, each round with its time, incidents with the action taken.

Supervisors who turn up unannounced. Including overnight, when a quiet post is easiest to coast through.

Guard cards you can check. Fingerprints through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI, 40 hours of BSIS training, 8 hours of refresher training a year.

Licence and insurance on paper. Ask us for written proof of licence and insurance before the first shift.

Insurance before the first shift. California requires $1,000,000 general liability per occurrence for a patrol operator, and your certificate arrives up front.

FAQ

Glendale Security Questions

How much does a security guard cost in Glendale?
The open-market range for unarmed guards in California runs roughly $22 to $40 an hour, a published figure rather than our own rate. Glendale has no general city minimum wage, so most posts sit above California's $16.90 floor, while hotel posts follow the city's hotel worker rate of $25.00 an hour from July 1, 2026. The quote lists each post with hours and rate after a free site walk.
Does Glendale require an alarm permit?
Yes. Glendale Municipal Code Chapter 8.12 requires a permit for alarm systems that signal police or fire, and the permit expires each June 30. On a registered address the first false alarm in the permit year is free, the second is $130 and can be waived by taking the online course, the third is $267 and the fourth onward are $361 each. On an unregistered address the first is already $361.
Do you provide armed guards in Glendale?
No. CAL Security Group staffs unarmed officers only. Carrying a firearm on duty in California requires a BSIS firearms permit as well as a guard card, and we do not staff those posts. Retail floors, lobbies, dealership lots, garages and events are ordinary unarmed work.
Can you patrol a car dealership lot overnight?
Yes. Dealership coverage is usually a patrol or a standing officer between closing and opening: rows walked, service bays and key boxes checked, plates and catalytic converters looked at, and anyone on the lot after hours contacted and written up. Lots on South Brand often share a patrol route to hold the cost down.
What does a guard do about shoplifting or a grab-and-run?
A uniformed officer at the door changes what a crew is willing to try, and where something does happen, the officer records descriptions, direction of travel, vehicles and plates, and hands police and your insurer a usable report. Post orders set the limits on any physical involvement, and those limits are agreed with you in writing before the first shift.
Are your Glendale officers licensed and trained?
Yes. Every officer holds a BSIS guard card, which takes fingerprints through the DOJ and the FBI plus 40 hours of training: 8 hours before the card is issued, 16 within 30 days and 16 within six months, then 8 hours a year. Ask us for written proof of licence and insurance before the first shift.
Can one officer cover several buildings in Glendale?
Yes, as a patrol route rather than a standing post. The officer makes timed stops at each property through the night, and each owner gets a log showing the time of every visit and what was checked. It costs a fraction of a dedicated officer and suits small commercial strips in Montrose or along Central Avenue.
Do you cover Burbank and the rest of the area?
Yes. We work across Los Angeles County and into the San Fernando Valley, Orange, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, so a route can take in Glendale and Burbank properties on the same night.
