A guard quote is only as good as the information behind it. These details change the price, the post orders, or both:
Send fire watch details the day you learn the shutdown date. Book the watch before the sprinklers or fire alarm go offline, because the fire code official or your insurer may require it to start the moment the system is out of service. A fire watch booked after the fact leaves a gap nobody wants to explain.
We walk the property with you or your site contact and look at entrances, lighting, blind corners, and the hours when the place empties out.
Each post gets its own line: where it is, the days and hours, and what it costs. You see what every post adds to the total before you decide.
Once you approve, the post orders are written from what the walk found, and a certificate of insurance naming you is sent before the first shift.
The officer is briefed on the post orders before starting. After every shift you receive a written report of the rounds, their times, and anything that happened.
Standing guard posts are priced by the hour, per officer. Unarmed guards in California generally bill $22 to $40 an hour, and fire watch runs $22 to $40 per guard per hour. Those are market ranges published on our blog, not CAL's rate card.
Where your post lands inside the range depends on the post itself. Overnight, weekend and holiday hours cost more than weekday daytime hours. A second or third post multiplies the hours. Fire watch rounds, vehicle checks and visitor logs add work to a shift. A short booking, such as a single weekend, usually carries a higher hourly rate than a post that runs all year.
The hourly rate covers more than the officer's wage. It also carries payroll taxes, workers' compensation, the $1,000,000 liability policy the state requires of patrol companies, uniforms, supervision and the dispatch line.
